We recently returned from the 12 day South Western Andean Birding Trail trip with Christian Sierra of Colombian Nature Guides. We had a great time on this trip and saw approximately 300 species of birds. Christian is an excellent birding guide and helped us spot the birds quickly. He didn’t give up on “hard to locate birds” and he was very persistent in trying to find our target birds. When we weren’t able to see a couple of birds at one location, he found another spot where we were able to see the target birds. I really liked that he was flexible and able to make minor adjustments to our itinerary, if necessary. The lodges we stayed in during our trip were all charming in different ways and offered different birding opportunities. It would be hard to pick a favorite! I really enjoyed this trip—we saw a lot of birds, took lots of great photos, enjoyed the scenic beauty of the Colombian Andes, and met lots of nice people. Wonderful Birding Trip in Colombia My wife and I recently returned from a wonderful 12 -day birding tour in South-Western Colombia led by our very talented tour guide, Cristian Sierra, who is the owner of Colombia Nature Guides. If you are someone who loves nature, and if you have an interest in birding amidst breathtaking scenery, as we do, then this is the dream trip you need to take. Full disclosure: This was our second time using Cristian as our private birding guide in Colombia, and the fact that we selected Cristian for a second birding tour in Colombia tells you all you need to know regarding our opinion of his ability to arrange and lead an exceptional birding tour. Be prepared to be spoiled by the variety and number of species of birds that you will have the opportunity to see. There are almost 900 different species of bird that can potentially be seen in this part of Colombia, and in our 12 days, we were able to see over 300 different species., including one of the most prized birds to see in South America, the Cock of the Rock. Every aspect of our trip was well planned. The lodges where we stayed ranged from clean basic accommodations to relatively plush lodges located in very scenic settings, based on what was available in the locations where we were touring. We traveled in comfortable cars, driven by very competent drivers selected by Cristian. Christian is a talented knowledgeable guide in all respects. He is a calm, interesting, and very likeable person with a good sense of humor. As a birding guide, he is exceptional, with the ability to recognize hundreds of different species of birds by their calls alone, and to then quickly locate them even in densely vegetated habitats. Cristian is tenacious and will not give up until he has done everything possible to ensure that we would see as many different birds as possible. If you are a bird photographer, as we are, Cristian is exceptionally good in seeking out various angles to try to optimize the intended photo, and is very patient in allowing you to take the necessary time to obtain the best photos possible. Obviously, we loved our unforgettable birding journey in Colombia, and we want to thank Cristian and his company for making all of it possible.
