Mwangi wa Gitau is our familiar and trusted bird guide. We, Léonie Venroij and Rick Jacobsen, know Mwangi from previous birding trips in 2015 – 2017 in Kenya. Our most recent trip with Mwangi was in March 2023 in Uganda. We selected him (again) as our guide, because we consider him tremendously knowledgeable about all the birds in the region. Mwangi is a good listener; he knows we’re not keen to stay in fancy resorts. Being close to the birds is more valued by us, and so Mwangi makes an effort to find amazing hotspots that fit both wishes. Mwangi is a good teamplayer. He gladly supports local guides if our requests become very specific and only local guides would know the most recent locations of that particular Owl, for example. Years ago, we also met Mwangi’s teachers from long time ago, but he has surpassed their skills and knowledge. He is one of the very best bird guides you can wish for.
