About me:
Greetings! I am Andrew Wagner, a passionate Birding Guide based in the awe-inspiring Kruger National Park. With a profound love for avian life and a deep appreciation for the natural world, I've dedicated myself to providing immersive and educational birding experiences for enthusiasts, nature lovers, and curious minds alike in the Kruger. With over a decade of experience, I annually conduct Birding Safaris in Kruger for clients such as Birding Africa, Wings and Tembele . Having travelled the length and breadth of the park in search of birds i have developed a deep understanding of the diverse bird species that call the Kruger National Park home and have surpassed 430 recorded species. My Birding Safaris are not only about bird identification but also about fostering a deeper understanding of avian behavior, ecology, and the intricate relationships within their habitats. Through engaging narratives and hands-on experiences, I aim to in-still a sense of wonder and appreciation for the avifauna of the Kruger National Park. For the back story i spent 17 years working in the Corporate space for companies like Daimler, Mercedes-Benz, Barloworld and Avis in the fields of Finance, Sales & Marketing as well as Brand and Organisational Strategy. I decided that it was time to pursue my own goal and dreams and started Safaria offering private guided wildlife, birding and photographic safaris in the Greater Kruger National Park region....and i never looked back.

My husband and I recently spent a few days on a birding safari with Andrew in Central and Southern Kruger as part of our honeymoon. Andrew is an incredible guide who's depth of knowledge is matched only by his obvious passion for Kruger and all of it's inhabitants. He's an accomplished mimic and can recreate countless bird and mammal calls allowing for non-stop entertainment and learning. He's able to identify numerous birds by ear only which also helps with locating the species and securing a positive identification. His detailed knowledge of the park means he knows the best place to look for specific birds and can help you locate elusive target species. He's a fun-loving, good natured guy that is a joy to spend the day with, but is also a keen observer. He doesn't let anything take away or distract from the guests' time in the park. It's a little thing, but even the care he took to position the vehicle when viewing birds and mammals showed an intense attention to detail. He would always ensure the guests had a clear view of the animal and were well positioned to observe or take photos. It's easy enough to find a guide for mammal viewing in Kruger, but finding a birding guide as knowledgeable and qualified as Andrew is no small task. I recommend Andrew wholeheartedly to anyone looking to bird in Kruger.

In November 2023 I went on a tour in Kruger with Andrew. I was extremely impressed not only with his knowledge of the park and its denizens - not only birds, flora, other fauna, its history & geography but his connection with it all. A regular visitor to the park since he was a lad and he knows it by heart, in his heart and in his bones. He delivers it all in a delightful package of humor, fun, gravitas (where appropriate) and service. Where else do you get your morning coffee fresh-made off the back of the vehicle while discussing the day’s plans. We saw 200+ birds and lots of other creatures - his bird calls are incredible and he can even call in a Crocodile! After a tour with Andrew you leave Kruger wondering if you will ever be in such a magical place again. Then you start thinking about how to get back there.
