  • Timing and strategy

Morning 6 am to 10 am is the best time on any day. Take the trail in the east side and the light is good to observe the bird and photograph.

Spot billed Pelicans , Grey Herons can be seen throughout the year. September to February is the best season to see the migratory birds.

One can walk in this trail maybe upto 2 km and watch out on either side of the trail. During the rainy season (September,October) better to walk with gumboots as the trail is more wet,muddy and slippery.

There are four  trails in this lake, Eastern side, bund side,western side and northern side. one should go preferrably eastern side early morning and start birding where usually the light is good and lot of activities especially Munias, Weavers and other land birds are active in the reeds during the breeding season.

You can walk or drive on the bund (road is not so good) and you can watch the activities in the water side where you can see flocks of Spot billed Pelicans,Painted Storks and Herons.

From the western side of the bund, a trail goes down leading to the western side of the lake where there lot of wooded area is found. This side also good for Waders and land birds.

On the north-west of the lake one more trail where you can see Pipits,Quails and some surprises like Eurasian Hobby , Buntings and raptors.

  • How to get there

Eastern Trail

From Bangalore, Hoskote is about 35 Km and it takes about two hours by public transport bus and by car about one hour. When you travel by car, after crossing the toll-gate at Hoskote,get into the service road on the left side and reach the Royal Enfield showroom and park the vehicle on the road side and start walking small foot path on the right side and follow the trail as shown in the map. You can walk as long as possible and need to retrace the same while returning.This trail cannot be accessed by driving and it is not advisable as well.

BUND SIDE

Lake bund runs semi-circular from east to west and can be accessed from both sides and the road is not so good .But you can drive/walk along the bund to get a glimpse of the lake and see the activities of water birds and raptors.

Western side Trail

Just about 100 met  before the toll gate, there is small entrance to reach the bund on the western side. When you drive about 500 met, you will reach a point where you can see the entire lake, From there you can see a path leading downwards on the left side of the lake and in this trail you can drive a little bit and park and then start birding by walking around.

North-western Trail
