Brookshire Park begins at a soccer field, but if you go around the field there is a flat, paved path along the river that goes along some beautiful man made wetlands. The Town of Boone and High Country Audubon Society are working to reforest the far side of the river, which will dramatically improve the birding in years to come. Look for shorebirds in the wetlands as well an unusual sparrows during migration. The trail turns left and goes up a hill into the woods, where there is a resident Eastern Screech Owl in a small dead tree just off the trail. The tickets are also good for several species of Thrushes as well as Warbler, Vireos, and other songbirds.

Morning is always going to be better for birds. Plan on half a day to bird this area thoroughly. The trail is flat along the river, but gets a bit steep up the hill, but it is wide and well maintained all throughout.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
