Valle Crucis Park is one of the best birding spots in the High Country. The wide variety of habitats in a small space combined with easy walking trails make it an easy spot to find great birds. Early morning will be your best bet to visit the Park, as it can get busy with non-birders in the middle of the day and especially on weekends. There is a paved path around the Park that goes past a man made wetland and along the Watauga River. There is also a mowed grass path through a wildflower meadow as well. Most bird walks I lead here last two hours and we are able to see the entire park at a relaxed pace.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding

There is limited signage for Valle Crucis Park (actually there is just a carved statue of a bear in a tree in the gravel road into the Park. If you plug 'Valle Crucis Community Park' into your GPS you should be fine getting here. It is off Broadstone Road just behind the Mast Store Annex.

Explain from where and how to get to this site with private and public transport.
