Kimsey Run Lake is a flood control lake in Hardy County, WV. As one of the largest bodies of water in the area, it functions as a layover stop for waterfowl species during migration and as a breeding ground for numerous local species. The broomsage fields around the lake are early successional with lots of red cedar making great habitat for American Goldfinch, Field Sparrow, Indigo Bunting, and Blue Grosbeak. A marsh at the head of the lake holds species such as Swamp Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat, Great Blue and Green Herons, and breeding Mallard and Wood Duck. Osprey and Bald Eagles hunt the lake frequently, and in most years a pair of eagles use an established nest across from and easily visible from the parking lot.
