Visiting the Site

- Link with maps to the park: https://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/BlackMoshannonStatePark/pages/maps.aspx

- This park provides many miles of hiking trails through mature forests and along the lake shore. The most popular trail in the Bog boardwalk (see map) that wanders through some bog habitat along the lake for a short ways.

Seasons

- The best time to visit this park is during the summer months. Due to its high elevation, this location has a high diversity of breeding songbirds. Some species that are more common at higher latitudes can be found here such as juncos, Golden-crowned Kinglet, and Alder Flycatcher.

- Spring and fall migrations can be productive, but not exceptionally better than anywhere else in the area.

- In the winter this can be a great spot to try for nothern finches during irruption years. Crossbills and redpolls can be found by the lucky birder traveling here in the cold. The feeders at the park office (map) can be good for Red-breasted Nuthatch in the winter.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
