The North Branch Nature Center (NBNC) is 28-acre preserve of fields and forest along the North Branch of the Winooski River. A walk around the trails here is wonderful for birding year-round, especially in the Spring and Fall during warbler migration. 26 species of warbler have been recorded here with around 18 of them being regular visitors during migration. NBNC itself provides many opportunities for visiting birders including weekly bird walks around the property during Spring and Fall. NBNC is also are a part of the MAPS bird banding program in which songbirds are caught in mist nets and banded in the early summer. Every October, NBNC works as a station for Project Owlnet where Northern Saw-whet Owls are banded each year to determine their migration paths and habits. NBNC is always looking for volunteers to help out with both of these programs, just email them to learn more. The trails are open to the public 24/7. To learn more about birding at NBNC, visit: their website.
