The Nguru Mountains is located in Morogoro region and it also form part of the eastern arc Mountains with great deal of endeminism.The mkingu nature reserve and the nguru south forms part of the larger nguru Mountains range.Severaly eastern arc endemic birds has been recorded here,this site is also an important bird area (IBA) The Nguru range runs roughly northeast-southwest, and is split by the valley of the Mjonga River, a tributary of the Wami River. The range lies in the watershed of the Wami. The plain of the Wami and its tributary the Mkata lies to the southeast and east. The Uluguru Mountains lie to the southeast across the plain. The Ukaguru Mountains lie to the southwest, and the Nguu Mountains lie to the north; both ranges are separated from the Nguru Mountains by low hills.

The best time to visit is after the april to may long rains when the  forest is still cool and dry though sometimes the higher forested island my have little showers.This site can best be explored on a walking safari for 1-2 days.There are several trails such as mhonda- mafuta trail,maskat-makombora trail and ubiri-pemba trail.
