This nature reserve is based on the upper end of Lake Thune. It offers a great mix of different habitats. You'll get a chance to watch birds in reedbets, hedges, forests, parkstyle areas, along lake shore or on open water. Even moutain birds can be watched along the surrounding moutain ranges. During migrations it can always be good for unexpected bird spices. It's easily accessable by public transport, cycle or on foot.

The Weissenau offers year-round a fantstic chance to see many different birds. During spring spending a few hours within the reserve will give you a good view of a big variety of birds and other animals. Best time for going out ist early in the morning or late in the afternoon. 
During winter you will find some interesting winter visitors on the lake.

Public transport: The next bus stop is Unterseen, Neuhaus (Bus 21). From there walk towards the lake and follow the path through the nature reserve. The next railway station ist Interlaken West. From there follow the river Aare to the river mouth. There are sings which show you the way to the Weissenau.

By Car: Park your car either at the Neuhaus or at on the carpark at the end of the Weissenaustrasse.

You don't need a permit to enter the reserve. There is a walking track leading through the whole area, which offers fantastic oppurtunities for watching birds. On weekends this path can be quiet crowded.

You don't need a permit to enter the reserve. There ist a is a walking track leading through the whole area, which offers fantastic oppurtunities for watching birds.birds. On weekends this path can be quiet crowded.
