Carson Lake is a network of shallow ponds and wetlands, the historical drainage basin of the Carson River, and one of the lowest points in the area, hence the name. The Carson River has since been diverted, so the water is provided via irrigation canals now. The basin was one of the deepest parts of Lake Lahontan many years ago.
