Tapir Valley Nature Reserve is located just a few kilometers from Tenorio National Park and the town of Bijagua de Upala.

This remarkable reserve includes a unique variety of habitats that support over 426 species of birds. These habitats include wetlands, a riparian zone, primary forest, secondary forest, and grasslands.

Tapir Valley was established in 2006 and is adjacent to the 18,000 hectare Tenorio National Park.

Some of the important species that are found here are Bare-necked Umbrellabird, Snowcap hummingbirds, Black-crested Coquette, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Keel-billed Motmot, and the elusive Tody Motmot.

These habitats include wetlands, a riparian zone, primary forest, secondary forest, and grasslands. Tapir Valley was established in 2006 and is adjacent to the 18,000 hectare Tenorio National Park.
