Since it is a very cold place, it may not be the best idea to start before dawn unless you have clothing that protects you from the cold. However, if you arrive before sunrise you will have a good chance to observe Mexican Whip-poor-will.

Bird activity sometimes increases when sunlight raises the ambient temperature. Starting around 7:00 am is a good option. At the beginning of the Camino de los Humeros you can find potato fields where you can observe some species of sparrows, depending on the season, Larks, Burrowing Owl, among other species.

After passing the deviation from the town of Frijol Colorado, the habitat changes and you will find more vegetation and the ground becomes a little more rocky, therefore the species that you can observe are different such as Wood-house Scrub Jay, Scott's Oriole, House Finch and other When the vegetation has flowers it is a good time to observe hummingbirds.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
