La Antigua is one of the first settlements established by the Spanish upon their arrival in Mexico, founded more than 500 years ago. Due to its history it is an important place for the state of Veracruz and due to its location it is an interesting site for bird watchers. Because the only way to get to the beach is from a boat trip, the low influx of tourists allows birds to rest on the shores of the beach with greater tranquility compared to other beaches. In addition, along the boat trip you will see some birds such as herons or kingfishers among the vegetation of the river. Keep in mind that in summer there are more people on the beach and that the weather is a very important factor in finding birds on the beach.

Both waterfowl and shorebirds can be easily found throughout the day, either eating or resting. There is no specific time that works best for birdwatching but arriving at dawn or a couple of hours later is always good, the presence of the birds will depend largely on the number of people on the beach, usually on weekends there are more people.

The climatic conditions also determine the presence of birds so you must take into account the weather forecast.

The best time to visit this site is during the fall and spring migration when shorebirds move.

Give recommendations for making your visit as productive as possible.
This may include for instance:
• best season
• best time of the day
• how much time to spend at the site
• best means of locomotion within the site
• recommended routes / areas within the site
• guiding
