The rongai forest is located in rombo district , Kilimanjaro region bordering the kenyan oloitoktok forest,it is about 120km from moshi town.The birds here are typically of montane forest and cultivations.The total area of North Kilimanjaro Forest plantation is 8,069 ha, being managed as  Plantation area (6596.3 ha), Natural forest (504.7 ha), and fire lines and buffer zones (968 ha). The Forest Reserve has a high catchment value since several rivers flow through the forest plantation such as Kimengelia, Nalemuru, Kikelelwa, Tarakea, Kamwanga and Lolarashi. In natural forests, indigenous tree species of Olea africana, Juniperus procera several acacia spp, Podocarpus gracilior, Fagaropsis angolensis and Hagenia abyssinica. The plantation is planted with Pinus patula, Cupressus lusitanica, Grevillea robusta, Pinus radiata, Juniperus procera Cedrella odorata and Eucalyptus grandis. Pinus patula is the most dominating species by area for trees with age between 6 and >25 years, covering about 68% of the total area

The Forest Reserve is rich in biodiversity especially along river valleys in connection with Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) and Amboseli National Park in Kenya of which forms animal corridor between the two parks. The fauna species include Birds, insects and mammals such as Colobus, blue monkeys, waterbucks, buffalos and antelopes

The best time of the year to visit here is from mid may to march,the long april rain should be avoided as the Mountain slopes becomes too foggy and cold.if you are visiting between june and august don't forget to carry warm clothing with you.A trip to this site can be combined with the nearby oloitoktok forest,lake chala or the Enduimet WMA.A 1-2 days here offers the best birding activity.The villageweaverbirding@gmail.com takes a selection of day trips and birding tours all over northern tanzania

You will drive from moshi town it will take about 2.5 hours by public transport which will cost you 6000tsh(3usd)you will get dropped off by the noah or shuttles from moshi at the new tarakea bus stand then from there you will take a minibus (going towards rongai town)to the forest office which will cost you 1000tsh
