Although you can find birds here year-round, this site is best for finding migrants. During migration, starting off the morning around sunrise in the formal gardens can be productive to get the birds feeding on the newly lit trees. Birding lower in the gardens along the powerline cut is also highly recommended and can be very productive.

There are numerous trails to walk along, but the White and Orange trails have stretches along the river and are recommended.

There are multiple parking lots and a UGA bus that goes to the garden on school days. Keep bearing left to park at the upper lots to bird the formal gardens. If you want to bird the powerline cut and river, there is a small gravel parking lot that you can get to by driving in and taking righthand turns that bring you lower in elevation until you reach the powerline cut.
